Is it legal to make a company stamp yourself?
It is legal to make a stamp for your own organisation, and no register or licence is involved in most countries. What is not legal is making a mark for an organisation you are not authorised to act for, or a professional seal for a credential you do not hold.

Every preview on this page carries a faint Estamplab watermark. Your own download does not: the editor renders your stamp again, clean, as a transparent PNG, an SVG or a PDF. See the full template library.
A steady share of the searches that reach a stamp maker are some version of "fake stamp", and most of the people typing it do not mean fraud. They mean a stamp that is not a physical rubber block, or one that looks convincingly pressed rather than obviously computer-drawn. Those are both fine and this tool does both. A smaller number mean the other thing. So it is worth setting out clearly where the line is, because it is not where people assume.
What you get
- Making a stamp for your own business needs no licence, no registration and no approval in most countries.
- Nobody issues company stamps: there is no official register of them to be listed in.
- A stamp is evidence of who issued a document, not something that makes a document binding.
- Imitating another organisation's mark to pass a document off as theirs is forgery, whatever tool drew it.
- A professional seal asserts a credential, so making one for a licence you do not hold is a misrepresentation.
- A realistic worn look is a design choice and is not what "fake" means legally.
How to make it
- Open the stamp maker and pick a shape, or start from a template.
- Type your wording, then set the colour, border and size.
- Add the date, time, serial number or logo, and position each one.
- Preview it live, then download. Designing and previewing are free.
Questions
Is it legal to make your own company stamp?
In most of the world, yes, and it is entirely routine. Company stamps are not issued or registered by any authority in common law jurisdictions, so making one is like ordering letterhead. Where your own articles of association say the seal must be adopted by the board, adopt it by resolution and record it, which is a governance step rather than a legal permission.
Is a digital stamp a fake stamp?
No. A digital stamp is a stamp made and applied as a file rather than pressed with a rubber die, and there is nothing false about it. The document it lands on is as genuine as the person applying it is authorised. What matters is who used it and whether they could, which was equally true of the rubber block.
Can I make a stamp that looks like a real pressed one?
Yes, and that is what the Aging control is for. A stamp that looks pressed rather than printed is a design decision, exactly like choosing a serif font for a certificate. It becomes a problem only if the mark itself is one you have no right to use.
What actually counts as forgery here?
Making or applying a mark that identifies an organisation or a credential you are not entitled to represent, in order that somebody relies on the document as if it came from them. That covers copying another company's seal, producing a notary or professional seal for a commission you do not hold, and fabricating a government or bank mark. The tool does not change the answer: the same act with a rubber die is the same offence.
Can I make a stamp for a client or an employer?
Yes, if they have asked you to. Designing a mark on instruction from the organisation it belongs to is ordinary work. Designing one for an organisation that has not asked is not, however good the reason sounds.
Does a stamp make a document legally binding?
No, and this is the misunderstanding underneath most of these questions. What binds an organisation is a person with authority agreeing on its behalf. A stamped document signed by somebody with no authority binds nobody, and an unstamped one signed by somebody with authority ordinarily does. Where a document has to be accepted by a particular body, their requirement is the one that decides.
Estamplab is a design tool. This page describes common commercial practice rather than giving legal, tax or financial advice, and practice changes. Where a specific document matters, check the requirement with the body receiving it. Only produce a mark your own organisation or your own credentials are entitled to use.
