A company seal template, line by line

That is the common form and it is deliberately short. The name has to match the register exactly, because a seal naming a company that does not exist under that name is worse than no seal. Everything in the middle is chosen from what your jurisdiction expects: some registries want the incorporation number, some want the year, some want neither. Leave off anything that changes, a phone number, a street, a director, because the seal outlives all three and each one is a reason to re-cut it. Whether a seal is required at all differs sharply by country, so check the requirement with your own registrar.
Most company seal templates you can download are a picture of somebody else’s company, which leaves you retyping a name into an image editor and hoping the curve still fits. The useful version of a template is not a file, it is knowing what belongs on each line, because that is the part people get wrong and the part that gets a document sent back. Questions
What should a company seal template say?
The registered name of the company exactly as it appears on the register, curved around the ring. In the middle, the registration or incorporation number, and often the year of incorporation and the town of the registered office. That is the whole of it. The commonest mistake is adding the things that change, a phone number, a street address, a director’s name, and then needing a new seal when one of them does.
Is a downloadable company seal template any use?
A flat image of somebody else’s seal is not, and that is most of what a search for one returns. What is useful is a layout you can type into, at the real size, so you can see whether your company name actually fits around the ring before you commit to it. A long name in a small ring is the single commonest reason a seal comes back unreadable, and it is only visible at true size.
What size should a company seal be?
A round company seal is commonly 38mm to 42mm across, and an oval one is often around 45mm by 30mm. The constraint is not the outside measurement, it is the text: below roughly 6pt at true size a pressed impression stops being reliably readable, so every line you add makes the others smaller. Two lines around the ring and two in the middle is about the practical limit for most names.
Can I use this as a company stamp template as well?
Yes, and for most businesses they are the same object under two names. A company stamp tends to mean the everyday rectangular block with the name and details, and a company seal tends to mean the round mark used on anything formal. Both are here, and which word your paperwork uses is a matter of local convention rather than a difference in what gets made.
Do I need a company seal at all?
It depends entirely on where the company is registered, and the answer has moved. The UK made the common seal optional under the Companies Act 2006 and several jurisdictions followed, while across much of Africa, South Asia, the Gulf and East Asia it is still expected on commercial contracts and a document arriving without one gets sent back. Is it legal to make my own company seal?
Making a mark for a company you are entitled to represent is ordinary, and in most places a company seal is not registered with anybody. What is not ordinary is applying a mark you are not entitled to use: another company’s seal, an official body’s emblem, or a professional credential you do not hold. That is forgery whether it is cut in rubber or drawn in a file, and the material makes no difference to it.
Can I get the template as a Word file?
Yes. The Word download places the seal at its true size with the date and any serial line kept as real, retypable text rather than baked into the picture, which is the thing a template downloaded as an image cannot do. The SVG and print-ready PDF are in the same download for anything going to a printer or a stamp shop.
