Company stamp maker, free to design

A company stamp is the mark a business puts on its own paperwork to show the document came from the company, usually carrying the registered name and the registration number, and it is used to authenticate routine documents rather than to execute them.

A company stamp is the workhorse mark of a business: it goes on invoices, delivery notes, quotations, letters, receipts and the covering pages of anything sent out. What it has to say is set less by law than by whoever is receiving it, which is why the same business often ends up with a stamp that satisfies its bank, its customs broker and its largest customer all at once. The practical questions are what goes on it, how big it should be, and whether the version used on PDFs can carry a date that is right.

Questions

What should a company stamp include?

At minimum the registered company name. Most businesses add the registration number, and many add the address, the tax number or a line such as "For and on behalf of" above a space for a signature. What a particular recipient insists on varies, so the useful test is what your bank, your customers and your own registry ask to see.

Is a company stamp a legal requirement?

It depends on the country, and in most common law jurisdictions it is not. In much of Europe and across Asia a stamp or chop is expected on commercial paperwork as a matter of practice, and in some places a company chop carries real authority on its own. The requirement is set by the jurisdiction and by the counterparty rather than by the stamp maker, so check what applies where the document will be used.

What size should a company stamp be?

Round company stamps are usually 38mm to 45mm across and rectangular ones around 58mm by 22mm. Fit the wording to the shape rather than the other way round: every extra line makes the rest smaller, and lettering below roughly 6pt at true size stops being readable once it is pressed or printed.

What is the difference between a company stamp and a company seal?

A company stamp authenticates everyday paperwork. A company seal, sometimes called a common seal, is the formal mark used when the company executes a document such as a deed or a share certificate, and it is usually governed by the articles and by who is allowed to apply it. Many businesses need the first and never need the second.

Can I make a company stamp for free?
