Medallion signature guarantee: why it is not a stamp
A medallion signature guarantee is a warranty issued by a participating bank, broker or credit union under a recognised programme. It is not a rubber stamp, it cannot be designed or bought, and only an authorised institution can apply one.

Every preview on this page carries a faint Estamplab watermark. Your own download does not: the editor renders your stamp again, clean, as a transparent PNG, an SVG or a PDF. See the full template library.
This is the one search on this site with a flatly negative answer, and it is worth giving properly, because the people asking are usually mid-transfer, told they need one, and understandably searching for a stamp. A medallion guarantee is not a stamp in the sense the rest of this site means. It is a financial institution putting its own liability behind your signature, and the mark it applies is a controlled security device the institution is issued and audited on.
What you get
- We do not make medallion guarantee stamps, cannot make one, and would not.
- The mark is issued to institutions inside the STAMP, SEMP and MSP programmes, not sold to individuals.
- It guarantees the signature is genuine and that the signer has capacity and authority to transfer.
- A notary is a different thing and is not a substitute: notarisation verifies identity, it does not warrant the transfer.
- Ask your own bank or broker first, and expect them to require an existing account.
- What we do make is ordinary business stamps and company seals, which is a different job entirely.
How to make it
- Open the stamp maker and pick a shape, or start from a template.
- Type your wording, then set the colour, border and size.
- Add the date, time, serial number or logo, and position each one.
- Preview it live, then download. Designing and previewing are free.
Questions
Can I get a medallion signature guarantee stamp online?
No, and any site offering to sell or generate one should be treated with suspicion. The medallion imprint is a security device with a coded, institution-specific identifier, issued to participating institutions under the Securities Transfer Agents Medallion Program and its equivalents. Producing an imitation is not a design exercise, it is fraud against a transfer agent.
Where do I actually get one?
From a financial institution that participates in one of the programmes: many banks, credit unions and brokerages. Start with an institution where you already hold an account, because most will only guarantee for existing customers, and take photo identification and the transfer paperwork with you.
Is a notary the same thing?
No, and this catches people out because a transfer agent will reject the wrong one. A notary confirms who signed. A medallion guarantee warrants that the signature is genuine and that the signer is legally entitled to make the transfer, and it makes the guaranteeing institution financially liable if that turns out to be wrong. That is why a notary costs a few pounds and a medallion is only given to customers.
What does it cost?
Institutions that offer it to their own customers commonly do so at no charge, and some charge a fee. It varies by institution and by the value of the transfer, so ask yours. Anybody quoting you a price to produce a medallion stamp itself is selling a forgery.
What can I use this site for instead?
Ordinary business marks: a company stamp, a received or approved stamp, a certified true copy stamp, a professional seal for a credential you actually hold. Anything that identifies your own organisation on your own document.
Estamplab is a design tool. This page describes common commercial practice rather than giving legal, tax or financial advice, and practice changes. Where a specific document matters, check the requirement with the body receiving it. Only produce a mark your own organisation or your own credentials are entitled to use.
