Every preview on this page carries a faint Estamplab watermark. Your own download does not: the editor renders your stamp again, clean, as a transparent PNG, an SVG or a PDF. See the full template library.

A signature chop is a signature that has been made reusable. Across much of Asia it sits beside the company chop as a matter of course; elsewhere the same thing is called a signature stamp and is used by anybody who signs the same document type fifty times a week. The mechanics are identical, and so is the caution that goes with it: a reusable signature is only as controlled as the file it lives in.

Questions

Is a signature chop legally binding?

It depends on the document and the place. Many jurisdictions accept an electronic signature for most commercial documents, and a signature image can qualify, while wills, deeds and some property and court documents often require something more. Where it matters, check the rule that governs that document type rather than assuming.

How do I make a signature chop from a photo?

Sign in black ink on plain white paper, photograph it straight on in good light, and upload it. The white is knocked out and what is left is the strokes.

Should the signature chop overlap the company chop?

That is the convention in a lot of places: the two marks overlap slightly so neither can be lifted cleanly from a scan. Place the signature first, then the chop over a corner of it.

Who should be able to use it?

As few people as possible. A signature chop is a file, and a file can be copied, so treat it the way you would treat a physical signature stamp locked in a drawer.

What is a signature chop?

A signature made reusable: a signature photographed or scanned, cleaned up, and saved as a transparent file that can be placed on a document. Across much of Asia it sits beside the company chop as a matter of course; elsewhere the same thing is called a signature stamp.

Estamplab is a design tool. This page describes common commercial practice rather than giving legal, tax or financial advice, and practice changes. Where a specific document matters, check the requirement with the body receiving it. Only produce a mark your own organisation or your own credentials are entitled to use.
