A letter carrying a request that somebody has to act on, a bank mandate, a confirmation of employment, an authority to collect, a letter of good standing, is usually the document where the mark is checked hardest. The recipient does not know your signature. They know whether the letterhead and the company mark look like the ones they have seen before.

Questions

Where does the stamp go on a letter?

Below or slightly overlapping the signature line, on the same side of the page as the signature. Corporate practice in most places puts it to the left of the signature and above the printed name. Keep it clear of the letterhead at the top: a stamp over the logo reads as a mistake rather than as authority.

How do I stamp a bank letter?

The same way, and the thing to get right is what the bank asks for rather than where the stamp sits. A bank letter almost always needs the registered company name and registration number legible in the mark, an authorised signature beside it, and a date. Confirm the specific requirement with the branch before sending, because banks differ and a rejected letter costs a week.

Should the stamp overlap the signature?

Slightly, if local practice expects it, and never enough to obscure either. The convention of overlapping exists to make it harder to lift the signature onto another document. The failure mode is a stamp dense enough that the signature underneath cannot be read, which some recipients will reject outright.

Can I stamp a letter written in Word?

Yes, drop the .docx straight in. It is laid out exactly as Word draws it, so the letterhead, the spacing and the signature block are all where you put them, and you can download the stamped copy as a Word file or a PDF.

Do I need a different stamp for letters?

Usually not: the same company stamp serves. Some organisations keep a separate letterhead or dispatch stamp carrying a reference number and a date, which is worth having if you send enough correspondence to need to trace a specific letter later.
