A scan has already lost quality once. Printing it to stamp it and scanning it again loses it twice more, and the result is the grey, speckled document everybody recognises as a third-generation copy. Stamping the scan directly costs nothing in quality: the page is exactly the file that came off the scanner, with one clean impression drawn on top of it.

Questions
My scan is a JPG, not a PDF. Can I still stamp it?
Put the image into a PDF first, which most phones and scanners will do at the point of scanning, then upload that. A PDF is what keeps the page size and print resolution intact.
The scan is grey and dark. Will the stamp show?
Use a colour, and lift or lower the opacity until it reads. Blue or red on a grey scan is unmistakable in a way black is not, which is exactly why offices use coloured ink on photocopies.
Will stamping it make the file bigger?
Barely. The stamp is a small image drawn onto the existing page, and the scan itself is not re-encoded.
Can I stamp a scan of a document I did not write?
Only if you are entitled to stamp it. Marking somebody else’s document as received, paid or certified is a statement about what you did with it, and it has to be true.
Does the scan get any clearer?
No. Nothing here sharpens or cleans a scan. It stays exactly as it was, with a stamp on it.
