Company stamp maker for Finland

Finland has largely moved past company stamps, with strong electronic identification doing the work instead, though a stamp carrying the Y-tunnus is still useful for export paperwork and overseas counterparties.

Finland is at the opposite end of the range from Poland. Electronic identification is mature and widely trusted, business is transacted with authenticated digital signatures, and a Finnish company can operate for years without ever needing a stamp. Where one is still wanted it is usually because somebody outside Finland asked.

Questions

Do Finnish companies use stamps?

Much less than most countries. Finland relies on strong electronic identification and authenticated digital signatures, so the stamp has no role in domestic execution. It appears mainly on export paperwork and in dealings abroad.

What is a Y-tunnus and does it go on the stamp?

The business identity code issued when the company is registered, written as seven digits, a hyphen and a check digit. It is the identifier a counterparty verifies, so it is the thing worth putting on.

Why would I need one at all?

Almost always because somebody outside Finland asked. Customs documents, letters of credit and contracts with counterparties in stamp-using jurisdictions are the usual reasons.
