Firmenstempel maker for German companies
German law does not require a Firmenstempel, but commercial practice treats it as standard on invoices, letters and forms, and a document without one often gets queried.
The Firmenstempel occupies an odd position in Germany: no statute requires it, and yet it appears on almost everything. Banks, insurers, authorities and trading partners expect the stamp beside the signature, and the habit is strong enough that its absence reads as an irregularity rather than as a choice.
What a company stamp in Germany usually carries
- The company name including the legal form, so GmbH, AG, UG (haftungsbeschraenkt), KG or eK.
- The registered address, commonly street, postcode and town.
- The Handelsregister number, shown as HRB or HRA with the registering court.
- Often the telephone number, and sometimes the USt-IdNr on tax paperwork.
Why make it digitally
- German business correspondence carries mandatory particulars under the Handelsgesetzbuch, and a stamp is the usual way of adding them to a form that has none.
- Registered details change on a Handelsregister amendment, and a cut stamp has to be replaced where an edit does not.
- Rectangular address stamps carry more lines than a round seal, and that is the shape German practice mostly uses.
Questions
Is a Firmenstempel legally required in Germany?
No. There is no statutory requirement to own or use one. What the Handelsgesetzbuch does require is that business letters carry particulars such as the legal form, the registered office, the register court and the register number, and a stamp is simply a convenient way of putting them on a document that lacks a letterhead.
What should the stamp say?
The company name with its legal form, the address, and the Handelsregister entry with the court, for example "HRB 12345, Amtsgericht Muenchen". Many also carry the phone number, and tax-related stamps add the VAT identification number.
Round or rectangular?
Rectangular is the German norm, because the stamp is mostly carrying lines of address and register detail rather than a name curved around a ring.
This describes common commercial practice rather than giving legal advice, and practice changes. Where a specific document matters, check the requirement with the body receiving it.
