Company stamp maker for France
French law does not require a cachet d’entreprise, but commercial practice puts one on quotes, invoices and delivery notes, and the number that matters on it is the SIREN or SIRET.
The cachet is a convention in France rather than an obligation. What is regulated is the information a business document has to carry: the company name, legal form, share capital, registered office and identifying numbers. A stamp is simply how those get onto a devis or a bon de livraison that has no letterhead.
What a company stamp in France usually carries
- The company name with its legal form, so SARL, SAS, SASU, EURL or SA.
- The SIREN, nine digits, or the SIRET, fourteen digits including the establishment code.
- Often the RCS entry with the registering city, and the share capital.
- The TVA intracommunautaire number on stamps used for invoicing.
Why make it digitally
- A stamp carrying the mandatory particulars saves adding them by hand to every document without a letterhead.
- Registered details change, and a new die costs where an edit does not.
- Rectangular address stamps hold more lines than a round seal, which is what French practice mostly uses.
Questions
Is a company stamp required in France?
No. There is no obligation to own or use a cachet. What is required is that commercial documents carry particulars such as the legal form, share capital, registered office, RCS entry and SIREN, and a stamp is a practical way of supplying them.
SIREN or SIRET on the stamp?
The SIREN identifies the legal entity and is the usual choice. The SIRET adds a five-digit code identifying a specific establishment, which matters if you have several sites and want the stamp to say which.
What about the TVA number?
Put it on if the stamp is used for invoicing, since the intracommunautaire number belongs on invoices. Many companies keep a separate stamp for accounting paperwork.
This describes common commercial practice rather than giving legal advice, and practice changes. Where a specific document matters, check the requirement with the body receiving it.
