A pharmacy stamp goes on the document at the point where the transaction closes: the script has been dispensed, by this pharmacy, on this date. That is a record somebody may go looking for years later, which is why the details on it matter more than the design.

What goes on one

The pharmacy name and the premises identifier. The name alone is not enough, because chains share it. The premises registration or licence number is the line that identifies which counter, and it is the line most often left off.

The address, short. Street and town. Enough to distinguish two branches.

The date. The dispensing date, not the prescribing date. On a repeat, those diverge and it matters.

A space for the dispensing pharmacist. Initials or a registration number, depending on what your regulator expects. It is the difference between "this pharmacy" and "this pharmacist".

A rectangle holds four straight lines and reads faster at a counter. See the rectangle stamp. A round mark suits a pharmacy that also uses the stamp as an identity mark on letters and accounts. See the pharmacy stamp and the pharmacist stamp.

The stamps a pharmacy usually ends up with

Most pharmacies buy the first and improvise the rest, which is how a delivery note ends up initialled in biro.

Why the date is the part that fails

A rubber dial dater is set by hand, and a pharmacy counter is one of the places where it reliably prints yesterday, because the first person in has not touched it. On a dispensing record, a wrong date is not a typo, it is a record that disagrees with the rest of the file.

A digital mark fills the date in when it is used, which removes the step entirely. The problem in full, and the band stamps it comes from.

Paperwork that is no longer paper

Wholesaler statements, credit notes, insurance claims and returns forms arrive as PDFs. Printing one to stamp it and scanning it back loses the legibility of exactly the numbers somebody will need to read. Applying the mark to the PDF directly keeps the file sharp and keeps the date honest.

The honest limits

Estamplab is a design tool. This page describes common practice rather than giving medical, legal or regulatory advice, and practice changes. What a pharmacy mark must carry, and who may apply it, is set by the authority that registered the premises and the pharmacist, so check the requirement with them rather than with a page like this one.

Only produce a mark you are entitled to use. A registration number belongs to the person or the premises it was issued to.

The rest of the range is on the stamp and seal directory.
