A gift stamp is a small business owning a mark without owning a print run. One stamp goes on tissue paper, kraft bags, boxes, tags, thank you notes and the outside of a parcel, and the whole cost is the stamp and a pad.

What it is for
Three jobs, and most people only think of the first.
Branding. The mark on the tissue is what somebody sees before they see the product, and it costs a fraction of printed packaging.
Sealing. A stamp across a fold or a flap holds tissue closed and does the job a sticker does, without the sticker.
Saying something. HANDMADE, THANK YOU, MADE IN LEEDS, a batch number, a care instruction. These are marks that would be absurd to print and are natural to stamp.
The design rules are stricter here
Packaging is the worst surface a stamp meets. Kraft paper is fibrous and absorbent, tissue is thin and moves, and a box is not flat. All three fatten the impression, and a design that survives on office paper closes up on kraft.
- Heavier strokes than you think. Anything under about half a millimetre of line weight will fill.
- Fewer elements. A mark with a ring, an emblem, three lines of text and a border loses two of them on kraft.
- Bigger gaps. Where two elements nearly touch, ink bridges them. Leave visible air.
- One colour, and a dark one. Pale ink on brown paper is nearly invisible. Black, deep navy, oxblood.
- Round or square. A shape reads at a glance on a busy surface where text does not.
The logo templates and the events templates hold most of the useful starting layouts.
Using your own logo
Most small businesses want their existing logo on the stamp, and most logos were drawn for a screen. That means grey, gradients, two colours and hairlines, none of which exist in ink.
What has to happen is a one-colour version with the thin parts thickened. Uploading the logo here knocks the white background out so it prints as ink rather than as a white card sitting on the brown paper, which is the single most common failure. The art and logo stamps post covers what to do when the logo simply will not reduce.
Ink and pads for packaging
A dye ink pad is fine on paper and disappointing on kraft, where it soaks in and greys off. A pigment pad sits on the surface and stays dark, at the cost of taking longer to dry, which matters when you are packing forty orders and stacking them.
For fabric ribbon or cotton bags, a fabric ink needs heat setting or it comes off on hands. That is a genuinely different product from an office pad.

Where a digital version still helps
The parcel gets a rubber stamp. The invoice inside it, the dispatch email and the packing slip are files, and the same mark as a transparent PNG keeps them consistent with the box. Designing the mark here gives you both from one design: the vector for a supplier to cut, and the PNG for everything on screen.
Making it
- Open the stamp maker and pick a round or square layout.
- Put the business name in the ring and something short in the centre, or the reverse.
- Thicken the strokes and simplify until it looks slightly too plain on screen. That is usually correct for kraft.
- Test the impression on the actual packaging before ordering a die.
- Download the SVG for the supplier and the PNG for your own documents.
The rest of the catalogue is on the stamp and seal directory.
