A land surveyor seals a plat. Nobody in the profession says stamps it, and the certification block on the drawing says seal. Plenty of people searching for one type "surveyor stamp", which is why both phrases appear on this site, but the mark itself has a word and this is it.

What a land surveyor seal carries
Where a board or council publishes a specification, that is the answer and this list is only a description of common practice:
- The words denoting the licence: LAND SURVEYOR, PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR, REGISTERED SURVEYOR, LICENSED SURVEYOR.
- The surveyor's name as licensed.
- The licence or registration number.
- The jurisdiction: the state, province, council or board.
- Sometimes a centre device reserved by the board.
The registration number is the working part. It is what a title company, a planning office or a court uses to confirm the plat was prepared by somebody licensed to prepare it, and it is the line worth setting large enough to survive a photocopy.
What sealing a plat means
The seal is a statement that the survey was performed by you or under your responsible charge, to the standard your jurisdiction sets. It travels with a signature and a date, and on a plat it usually travels with a certification paragraph whose wording is prescribed.
That has consequences most people learn the hard way:
- A sealed plat that gets revised needs re-sealing, and the old seal has to go.
- The seal belongs on the sheets you are responsible for.
- Sealing a survey you did not supervise is a licensing matter, not a favour.
Stamp or seal, in practice
Both words get typed into a search box, and if you are looking for where to have one made you will find the results either way. On the document, use the word your jurisdiction uses, which is almost always seal. In conversation with a stamp supplier, either is understood.
Where it genuinely matters is the wording printed inside the mark. A mark reading SURVEYOR STAMP would look wrong in a certification block that says the plat is sealed, and the mark should match the block.
The wider version of this question, across every trade that presses a mark, is in stamp or seal, by profession.
Getting it onto the drawing
Plats move as PDFs and as large-format prints. The seal has to work at both ends, which means:
- Vector, not a photograph. A scanned impression of a rubber seal goes soft the moment the sheet is scaled. Download the SVG or the print-ready PDF so the mark stays sharp at any plot size.
- Transparent background. A mark with a white box behind it covers the drawing under it. The transparent stamp PNG page covers why that happens.
- Applied to the file, not to a print. Printing, sealing by hand and scanning back costs line quality on a document whose content is lines. The stamp a PDF tool applies the mark to the file.
Whether a digitally applied seal is accepted for a particular filing is a question for the board and the receiving office, and the answer differs by jurisdiction and by document type.

The related marks
A survey practice usually runs more than one mark: the seal for the plat, a firm identity mark for correspondence and invoices, and a dated received mark for the office. The land surveyor stamp maker holds the seal layouts, the company stamp covers the firm mark, and the received stamp covers the third.
The honest limits
Estamplab is a design tool and it verifies nothing. A seal made here carries the authority the person applying it already holds, and no more. Build it to your own board's published specification, only for a licence issued to you, and confirm with the board whether an applied digital seal is accepted for the filing in front of you.
