Most organisations stamp documents that get filed and forgotten. A church or a charity stamps documents that somebody keeps in a drawer for sixty years and then brings back, which changes what belongs on the mark.

The certificate seal
Baptism, confirmation, marriage and membership certificates. Whoever produces one of these is producing a document that may be presented decades later, sometimes in another country, by somebody the current staff never met.
So the mark carries:
- The full name of the church, parish, congregation or organisation.
- The place, which is what distinguishes two congregations of the same name.
- The denomination or parent body, where there is one.
- Often the year of founding.
Not the phone number, not the website. Both will be wrong long before the certificate stops being used, and a stale contact detail on a document somebody is trying to verify sends them into a dead end.

The receipt stamp
The workhorse. Donations, offerings and subscriptions, and in many countries a donation receipt has to carry the organisation's registration number to be usable for tax by the donor.

That registration number is the line that makes the receipt worth having. The received with thanks stamp has the layout, and the NGO stamp and foundation seal cover the wider set.
The governance marks
A registered charity is an organisation with minutes, resolutions and accounts, and those documents want the same marks any organisation uses:
- Board resolution seal, on resolutions. See the board resolution seal.

- Certified true copy, on copies of the constitution or registration certificate sent to a bank or a funder. See certified true copy stamps.
Design, honestly
Religious and charitable marks attract ornament, and ornament is what fails at stamp size. A cross, a dove or a shield reduces well; an engraved scene does not. Keep one device, keep the strokes heavy, and check it at the size a certificate actually uses.

The honest limits
