An emblem is the fastest thing on a stamp to read. Before anybody works through the ring text they have already registered a pair of scales, a caduceus, a crest or a wreath, and decided what kind of document they are holding.

The wax seal
The oldest of them, and still the one people reach for when a document is meant to feel like an occasion. Real sealing wax on a certificate, a deed, a wedding invitation or a membership scroll signals ceremony rather than administration.
A wax seal stamp rendered as a file is not the same object and does not pretend to be. What it gives you is the look, on documents that will never be physical: the raised ring, the pressed centre, the slightly irregular edge that says something was pressed rather than printed. Where the document itself is going to print, on a certificate or a folder, the vector file is what a foil or emboss finisher wants.
Where a real wax seal earns its keep, buy wax. Where the certificate is a PDF that someone will download, the file is the honest version of the same idea.
The scales
A scales stamp is the mark of legal practice almost everywhere in the world, and it is instantly legible in a way that the words "Advocate" in ten point type are not.
A justice stamp goes by several names and several conventions, and they are not interchangeable. Plain scales, the kind on an advocate seal, read as commercial and professional. Scales in a laurel wreath read as institutional, which suits a firm rather than an individual. Lady Justice, blindfolded and holding the scales, reads as court and judiciary, and looks pretentious on a small commercial practice. A scales of justice emblem on the seal of an accountancy firm is simply wrong: the scales there mean law, not balance sheets.
Pick the one that matches what you actually are, and the emblem does work for you. Pick the grandest one available and it reads as a firm describing itself rather than identifying itself.

The rest of the vocabulary
The laurel wreath. Achievement and award. Right on a certificate, a school seal or a long service mark; odd on an invoice stamp.
The crest and the shield. Institutional and old. Suits a school, a society, a chartered body. On a two year old company it reads as costume.
The star. Neutral and universal, which is exactly why it is the most common centre on a company seal that has no emblem of its own. It fills the middle without claiming anything.
The caduceus and the star of life. Medical. Nothing else.
The monogram. Initials, treated as the emblem. The most flexible option and the one that suits a small business, an author or a professional practice better than a borrowed institutional crest.
The gear, the anchor, the globe. Industry, shipping, trade. Literal, and they work precisely because they are literal.
Emblem or no emblem
Most company stamps do not need one. A registered name, a number and a clean ring is a complete stamp, and adding a wreath to it does not make it more official, only more decorated.
The test is whether the emblem says something the words do not. Scales tell a reader in one glance that this is a legal practice. A wreath on a company seal tells them nothing except that a wreath was available.
An emblem is decoration, not authority. Do not press a professional emblem you are not entitled to, and do not reproduce another organisation's seal, which is forgery regardless of how convincing it looks.

Can I make a wax seal stamp online?
You can make the design, and that is genuinely useful in two situations: when the document is a PDF that nobody will ever press wax onto, and when you want vector artwork to hand a foil or embossing finisher for something going to print. For physical wax on paper you need wax and a metal die, and this does not replace either.
What does a scales stamp mean?
Legal practice. Plain scales read as a commercial or professional legal mark, scales in a laurel read as institutional, and Lady Justice reads as court and judiciary. They are not interchangeable, and the grandest is rarely the right one.
Should a company seal have an emblem at all?
Usually not. A registered name, a registration number and a clean ring is a complete and credible seal. Add an emblem only when it says something the wording does not, which is mostly when it identifies a trade at a glance.
Can I use my own logo instead of a built-in emblem?
Yes, and for most businesses it is the better answer. Upload it and the white background is knocked out so it reads as ink. Keep it simple: at 40mm a detailed illustration becomes a smudge, and a single strong shape survives.
What about gold and silver foil seals?
They are a finish rather than an emblem, and they suit certificates, awards and anniversary marks. The design here can carry that look on screen, and the vector file is what a print finisher needs if the certificate is going to be foiled for real.
One last thing, because emblems invite it. What a professional seal entitles you to do is set by the body that issues or recognises it, and that differs by country and by profession.
