A white rectangle sitting behind a stamp is the commonest failure in office documents, and it is almost always the same cause: the file is a JPG, and JPG cannot store transparency at all. Not badly, at all. Every pixel that looked like nothing around the seal is written as literal white and lands on the page as a card, hiding the table rule, the signature line or the clause underneath.

What transparency actually is
Before the transparency, the format. An SVG stamp is vector and stays sharp at any size, which is what a printer or a sign maker wants. A PDF stamp is the one to hand somebody who just needs to place it and not think. A Microsoft Word stamp floats over the paragraph instead of shoving it down the page, and keeps the date as text you can retype. EPS exists for the design tools that still ask for it. The transparent PNG is the workhorse, and it is the one this article is about, because it is the one people get wrong.
An image stores colour for each pixel. A transparent image stores one more number per pixel, the alpha channel, which says how much of that pixel is ink and how much is nothing at all.
PNG and SVG carry an alpha channel. JPG does not. That is the whole distinction, and it is why the transparent PNG is the file you want for a document and the JPG is the file you want almost never. What each format is for sets it out in full.
A stamp with real transparency reads through in the gaps between the letters and inside the ring, the way a rubber stamp prints on paper. That is not decoration: it is what makes the mark look applied rather than pasted.
How to test it in ten seconds
Put the file on something coloured. Drop it onto a dark slide, or into a document over a filled table cell, and zoom in.
If a rectangle appears, the file has no transparency and no amount of resizing will fix it. Do this with any stamp tool before you pay, including this one.
Putting a transparent stamp in Word
- Insert then Pictures, and choose the PNG.
- Click the image, open Layout Options, and pick Behind Text so the document text runs over the mark, or In Front of Text if it should sit on top.
- Drag a corner handle to resize, never a side handle: a side handle changes one dimension and a squashed circle is obvious to everyone except the person who made it.
- Position it in the margin, under a signature block, or across a corner.

Putting a transparent stamp on a PDF
Two routes.
In your own PDF editor, place the PNG as an image. Whether it stays movable depends on the editor: a stamp added as an annotation can be dragged off by the next person who opens the file, which is worth knowing if the document is going anywhere.

Making a logo transparent
A logo file usually arrives with a white background, and pasting it onto a document produces the same white box.
Upload it in the stamp maker and the background is removed automatically, so the logo prints as ink. The knock-out adapts to the file rather than assuming pure white, which matters because a JPG logo photographed or re-saved a few times has a background that is nearly white rather than exactly white. Common questions
How do I make a stamp with a transparent background?
Download it as a PNG rather than a JPG. The PNG here carries a real alpha channel. Converting a JPG to PNG afterwards does not add transparency: the white is already baked in, and renaming the file changes nothing.
Why does my stamp have a white box around it?
The file is a JPG, or it was screenshotted. A screenshot is a flat rectangle of pixels and throws away transparency and resolution at the same time.
Does a transparent PNG work in Word?
Yes, in every version and in the mobile app. Set the wrap to Behind Text so the document reads through the mark.
What about Google Docs and LibreOffice?
Both handle transparent PNGs. Insert as an image and set the wrap the same way.
Should I use PNG or SVG?
PNG for documents: universally supported and it carries the transparency. SVG if a stamp maker is cutting a physical die from the design, because it scales without softening. File formats compares them.
Can I make the whole stamp semi-transparent?
Yes. Lowering the opacity is what produces the large faint seal that sits behind text without hiding it, which is the right treatment when the mark has to overlap wording.
